About the Author

Matthew J. Norcross is the creator of The Phoenix. The series focuses on a boy named Joe, who - whenever confronted with sticky situations any kid can relate to - transforms into the self-titled superhero, which takes its name from a firebird from Greek mythology that rises from the ashes. Joe is a character with a history based on that of Mr. Norcross.

When he was 2, he began suffering from a communication disorder known as Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified or PDDNOS, which was later diagnosed as Asperger's Syndrome.

Asperger’s can make it very difficult to try and figure out social cues, which is also the case with Joe.

Knowing what it’s like suffering from Asperger’s, everything has always been a struggle for Norcross, but he was always be able to fight back and beat the odds, and succeeded in doing so. Social cues can be difficult, but part of life is having to follow them. These books are meant to help all children, especially those that have social difficulties, and Mr. Norcross hopes he can help teachers and parents alike in dealing with these everyday situations by building character one step at a time.
